St. Patrick's Day Yarn Wreath

I just finished my yarn wreath for St. Patty's Day. I decided to go with no bunting on it like I have with my others. I don't know. It seems kinda naked to me. I may have to go back and add something in a day or two.

I found so many cute things to put on a St. Patty's Day wreath that I had the hardest time deciding what look to go with. So - the conclusion I came up with is that I just have to make another green wreath! This one will be all shades of green & a touch of brown, with moss and twigs and earthy florals. And then I can use the little garden gnome that I bought last year that has been waiting in the wings for the perfect wreath to rest on!

I guess after that it will be 4th of July again! I have to make another wreath to replace the one I did last year. I hated it with a passion. It just wasn't me...

If you want to take a look at my previous yarn wreaths, then click the following --> Easter, Halloween and Valentine's. All this happy craftiness due to my sister Megan's craft blog and her very first yarn wreath!

Printables by Amy

What a darling website! Really cute stuff. And beautiful pictures. This Red & Black Birthday Party is about the cutest thing I have ever seen!

Her whole business is selling you the digital file of the things you need for the party.

It is a bit depressing because this is the idea I came up with for a business several years ago and have thought of often ever since. :(

Click HERE to see some of her other party ideas.

Oh wait! I just realized that she has a blog as well. Click HERE to visit Living Locurto. The Printables by Amy is just her 'shop' within her blog I guess.

Halloween Yarn Wreath

I'm still lovin' yarn wreaths. All thanks to my sister Megan who got me hooked last Easter. My 4th of July attempt was a dismal failure - but I think I have redeemed myself with my Halloween cheer!

I love how it turned out with two little exceptions. First - my bunting is too low. But once it is glued, there is no turning back. And two - I totally forgot to 'antique' the white letter triangles before I glued them to the rest of the bunting. I had to go back and try to do it after. Woops. What are ya gonna do?

I love the font I found also. It is called Wild Wood and I found it on one of my favorite font sites, dafont.com.

Cake Bunting = Cutest Thing Ever

My sister found this cake bunting idea so I snatched it from her blog. Isn't it the cutest idea ever!? I might even have to force myself to bake a layered cake from scratch just so I can put a little bunting on it.

Let the Easter Decorating Begin!

I just finished my Easter yarn wreath! I got the idea from my sister's craft blog. She made a Valentine's Day one that was so cute. I had to wonder around Michaels and Hobby Lobby for hours to decide on little things to put on it. And for those of you in H-Town - the greatest thing I found was that Hobby Lobby is WAAAAYYYYYY better then Michaels. How come I haven't been shopping there instead!?

I am addicted to these wreaths now and want to make a ton! :) I want my next one to be an 'earthy' one that I can keep up year round. And then after that I want to make one for the 4th of July. Fun stuff!

Our New Family Hobby

We have a new family hobby and are loving it! Especially Robert & Carson. Robert is like a giddy child and Carson spends his day standing on his little stool and the black chair watching the fish. It has been alot of fun!

It is Robert's parents tank that they gave us. Robert's step dad Randy made the stand and hood for it and graciously let me paint the beautiful Oak brown. I still need to antique the brackets on the cupboards and finish painting and distressing the hood. But you get the idea. And I love that I now have 10 new drawers in my office. Any extra storage is a good thing!!

In these pics the water is still a little cloudy because we had just set it up, but now it is super clear and looks great! We decided to do 'community' fish because they are way less expensive then other more aggressive types of fish.

It cracks me up how different it is to have a tank of this size versus the smaller ones that I am used to. When it came time to put fish in it a few days after we set it up I asked the store what kind and how many we should start with and she said, "Mmmm... I wouldn't put that many to start with. Only about 15 or 20." I cracked up. Apparently we have a long way to go to fill this bad boy up. We started with 12 little fellas and lost one within 24 hours. But the rest are doing great! Right now we have Mollies and Platies, but I can hardly wait to get a couple of Cobalt Blue Lobsters and some Red Cherry Shrimp. Parker wants to start off his little collection with Bala Sharks and Colombian Sharks and Demi with Silver Dollars. :)

I told the kids 2 things when we set up the tank. 1) They could each pick a plant to place where they wanted and 2) We wouldn't be getting any cheesy castles or little treasure chests that opened and closed with little bubbles coming out! Then when we got to the store I had to amend my 'pick your own plant' rule when Demi wanted to get the only hot pink plant choice available to her! :) So after my little 'no ugly' decorations or 'no flourescent plants' speech I saw this bad boy and knew we had to have him...

It's our little Easter Island Head. Straight out of Night at the Museum. "Dum Dum needs gum gum!" :) The kids love him. Carson calls him Dum Dum all the time and Parker calls him by his technical name, an Easter Island 'Moai'.

Below are pictures so my grandma can see where it is in our house. :)

And this last picture is so my mom can see our new mirror and where I put it. :) Robert's dad that lives in Kansas made it for us a long time ago and when they came to visit recently they brought it to us. I painted it to match the fish tank. So now I have 2 beautiful handcrafted Oak pieces for my house made by my 2 father-in-laws that I have painted brown to match! I love when it all works out all tidy and 'matchy-matchy' for my mind. It makes my ultra compulsive side all tingly and happy!

Ribbon Wreath

I think this ribbon wreath is such a cute idea. So simple and fun to make - this one was made for Halloween - but think of how cute it would be with any ribbon for any holiday! The possibilities are endless...

Supplies:
12″ foam wreath form
24 yards 1 1/4″ black grosgrain ribbon (or less if using a wider ribbon)
Scissors
Measuring tape

Directions:
Cut 45-50 16″ pieces of ribbon. Tie one strand of ribbon in a knot around the wreath. I used a “messy knot” — right over left, then right over left again, pulling in the opposite direction. It doesn’t really matter how you do it as long as you are consistent all the way around. Repeat with the knots, pushing them close together, until you fill the wreath. Cut one long piece of ribbon (48″) and tie one end to form a knot. Leave a long loop for hanging and tie another knot onto the wreath. Trim any frayed or long ends.
