Grease Sing-A-Long

This week I went to see Grease with some girlfriends. And it was a sing-a-long. It was so fun! It cracked me up seeing it on the big screen for the first time in over 30 years!! It was fascinating. I learned so much! I saw detail that I had never seen before. The detail on all of their clothes was amazing, or for instance - remember when they were at the lunch table outside and Marty says "Double doo doo. One of my diamonds fell in the macaroni." Well to see those glasses up close and personal. It was awesome. I actually saw what they looked like for the first time. Or I should say - I actually paid attention to all the little details as an adult - rather then the 6 year old I was at the time when the movie came out. Another thing I realized was what babes Danny & Kenickie were! You can just grasp all their foxiness so much more on the big screen. We were cracking up because one of the girls that was sitting behind us said under her breath at one time, "I mean - look at his lips!" talking about John Travolta. LOL. I also realized that Rizzo really stole the show. And the whole cast was freakin' old! Who were they trying to fool. Like literally, some of the extras at Rydell must have been in their late 30's. They didn't even care if they looked young.

Another thing I noticed was how naughty alot of it was. Who knew? Especially the whole Greased Lightning scene. There were words in that song that I have never even noticed. It was pretty clever how the did the words for the songs on screen. It was all animated with really clever graphics. And when there was a naughty word... lets say one that rhymed with 'pits'... They would put a little hand drawn illustration of a cow with an arrow pointed at her 'utter'. LOL. The whole theatre was cracking up.

It is also so funny the way you think of things when you are a kid. Or really I should say how your parents 'trick' you when you are a kid... Like you know that 'lucky penny' that Kenickie gets out of his pocket when Rizzo and him are getting 'frisky' in the back seat of his car. Well guess what? It isn't actually a 'lucky penny'... ;)

Two last thoughts... I REALLY wish I had pair of sunglasses just like Rizzo's and every girl out there should totally buy the sing-a-long version on DVD as soon as it comes out. You won't be disappointed!

I can fit! There is plenty of room!

So my neighbor Debbie and I are chatting on the driveway real quick before they leave on a bike ride and I look over and see that Carson has made himself comfortable...

Check out Aubrey's foot all smashed behind Carson. :)

Parker's Camo Party

Parker just had his 7th birthday! Can you believe he is getting that old? He is obsessed with anything 'army' or 'solider' and his current favorite show is Modern Sniper on Discovery's Military Channel. Today he kept asking me if you have to pay to be in the military. Lol. I kept telling him that he has to pay to go to West Point, Annapolis or the Air Force Academy. Which is the only way he can be in the military if I have anything to say about it. Lol. I REALLY hope this is one of those childhood dreams like being a vet or a circus clown that will fizzle out over time.

So - here are some pics of his party. We had a little 'boot camp' obstacle course in the backyard, took some pics of the kids wearing their dog tags and camo helmets and then had cake and ice cream. Parker loved it and was happy to have his friends and cousins over.

Like how I blurred out our contact info in case there is some crazy out there who is after my fam? Lol.

And I have to say after years of getting all of our cakes at R J Goodies, I finally got one that I wasn't happy with. It was pretty ugly - but I survived. I should have had her make it all camo instead of putting dog tags on it. My bad.

The new picture taking rule in our house is that Demi has to act like a normal person when I photograph her. No more posing like a goober. Just a cute little smile!

We went to dinner with Robert's family and some friends after his party.

I have to take a quick second to point out how much Carson cracks me up on a daily basis. He always travels with a whole slew of stuff. Lol.

And believe me - this is a good day. At least he isn't wearing a holster with guns or carrying his backpack full of stuff.

Parker got to open his gift from Nanu & Pappa - Lego's! He is addicted to Lego's and is collecting the Atlantis set right now.

It was fun because Robert's dad and step mom were in town from Kansas. It was nice to spend time with them and perfect because we had an occasion to celebrate!

Carson wanted to sit right between Grandma Brenda and Nanu at dinner. He was so funny.

It was a great weekend!

Friends

LOVE these two photos. I found them on one of my favorite blogs, The Graphics Fairy. It reminds me of my best friend and I in another life. :)

Isn't it fascinating to wonder what these women's lives where like? What did they talk about? What where their fears, concerns and/or secrets that they shared with each other? Where did they spend their time and go for fun? Where were they going on these days? So interesting to think about! One thing I know for sure is that life would suck without a best friend to share things with and confide in! Life without a best friend seems unhealthy and unbearable.
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

I am thankful.

I got one of those long, cheezy forwarded emails today that turned out to be really great because it is totally true.

Last night I had to have a little talk with Parker because he was whining and complaining in bed because he didn't get to use the pillow he wanted. I had to explain to him that there are children in the world that sleep on the dirt with no blankets or pillows. And that when they get up in the morning they do not have any food to eat.

I guess today it was my turn for a little life lesson and reminder.

So here is the email. Sorry it is in all caps. I didn't want to re-type the whole thing. :)

I AM THANKFUL...

FOR THE WIFE -
WHO SAYS IT IS HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND -
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER -
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES,
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE.

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT -

BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.
