I am so excited to get our camera in the mail. Hopefully it will be in the next day or two. I thought I would share the research I did on cameras in case anyone is interested...As you know, our camera broke and I was so desperate to get a new one. I felt like everyday that went by I was missing a chunk of the kids life. All the funny things I missed taking pictures of! I can't think about it! :) I knew I had to be really practical with getting a camera right now, so I found out that you can get a really good camera for really inexpensive. (relatively speaking of course!) For instance - our camera that broke was a great little Pentax that we bought only about 3 years ago for several hundred dollars. The camera I just bought has WAY better specs then the last one and was only $138 with free shipping. It is just amazing how fast new technology moves and gets less expensive. And the new technology is great. And it is amazing how you can get a great price online. Some of the places selling the camera I bought were selling it for quite a bit more. Who wouldn't get the cheaper one and save 30 or 40 bucks?
I decided on the Canon A570 IS, shown above. It has a really good zoom and image stabilization AND some manual controls which is what I really wanted. I wanted to be able to take really sharp and clear pictures with natural light/no flash. And I wanted to be able to adjust some of the settings myself. The Sony Cybershot DSC-W55, shown below, was also good. I liked it because it is a bit smaller and rechargeable, and I wanted it in blue 'cause it is so cute! But it was a bit more expensive, and really the Canon had more of the specs I wanted.
Don't get me wrong. I wanted a really nice bad-A one... but that will have to wait. I was just excited with what I could find to get me by! Here is a link to the comparison chart of the two I was deciding between. Along with good specs, they both had really good reviews. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_a570is%2Csony_dscw55&show=all

YEAH!!! I know what it is like to be without a camera and it's pretty hard. Congrats on the new purchase. I have a Canon too and I think they are the best - GOOD CHOICE! :)
