While we are on this subject let me tell you what I have just found online...

It is the neatest organization called
First Book and they have a campaign called
What Book Got You Hooked?. It is a campaign which has you share your first favorite book and then vote for the state which you would like to see receive 50,000 new books for children in need. So click
HERE to go and vote for your state to receive free books!
So, with that being said...

...I remember the
very book that got me hooked on reading and I remember the
very table that I was sitting at when I started reading it. It was a round table and had several other kids at it. I think it was in the library of my school and we had just come from a book fair where I had bought the book - and I think I was in about 4th grade. Anyway, I have always remembered that day as the day that I fell in love with reading. The book was called
Susannah - by, Candice F. Ransom and it was a
Sunfire Romance book. Sunfire books were youth readers and they were all formatted the same way. They were all about a girl in a particular period of American history -
my first was set in the South - and the girl always had to choose between two suitors. It was my first chapter book ever and made me fall in love with reading, history, and more specifically, at that time, the American Civil War. It is so funny to think back. I remember having the awesome feeling of realizing what it was like to visualize a whole other world and to live in that world. So fun! I was so loving that world that I became obsessed with the Civil War and even subscribed to
Civil War Digest magazine! After I finished that first book I quickly went through the whole series and started falling in love with all the other periods of history... The Great Depression, The Oregon Trail, Cowboys & Indians... The list goes on and on... There were 32 in the series. I had every one of them and finally got rid of them about 8 years ago. I am
SO MAD at myself now! I would give anything to have those books again - so I looked online and found a couple of neat sites. There is a site where a girl has documented finding them all again and collecting them (click
HERE to view) -
which I want to do now - and there is another great site called
biblio.com (click
HERE to view) that is a great resource for finding used, rare and out of print books. I can't wait to get started on my quest to get all my Sunfire books back! :)

I read those books! Not all of them. I completely forgot about them, but I really liked them. Good luck on your quest.
so does your quest include people giving them to you as gifts if they come across them, or is that not as fun!
Of course! who woouldn't accept a gift!? :)
