The Big Three Six

A little stroll down memory lane beginning with a picture of me 36 years ago on the way home from the hospital. Notice the lack of carseat and the fun and comfy ride home on my moms lap!

Also - a quick story... I am one lucky girl to have such a wonderful family and such a wonderful support system AND a grandma with such a great memory to share funny stories! I hope you don't mind me posting such a personal story but I thought my mom and dad would get a kick out of it! I recieved this email from my grandma ReVoe yesterday morning. The morning of MY 36th BIRTHDAY! Robert is getting sooo sick of me talking about it. But this '36' is a big deal for me. Mostly becasue, as you can read in the following letter, MY GRANDMA WAS 36 WHEN I WAS BORN!! That is huge to me now. For the last couple of days, every few hours, I will just look at Robert and say something like, "Our child and grandchild could be sitting here with us..." And he will roll his eyes and shake his head. Then tell me how ridiculous I am. My grandma and I have always been really close. My middle name is ReVoe, after her, and I was her first grandchild. And of course, being 36, people always thought I was hers. She is my dad's mom but my mom and dad have known each other since they were kids so my mom was always a part of their family. Well, here is a portion of the letter from my grandma...
...How well I remember getting my 4, 5, 10, and two 12 year olds out the door for school and going off with your mom on that nice spring morning to Anaheim to get my hair done. I can see your mom talking with my friends and Rosie - my hairdresser - waiting for me to finish with my hair so we could go next door and get spaghetti and meat balls - her favorite - then on to her doctor appointment. We had it planned just right so I could be home before my children got home from school. Theola would keep Chris and Steph after preschool for me. I will never forget the look on your moms face when she came out of the doctors office and said, "I am in labor! He wants me to go right over to the hospital - AND MY BREAKFAST DISHES ARE IN THE SINK!" I remember making arrangements for the kids and phoning Grandpa and her talking with your dad. I remember the nurse asking me if 'the father' was coming - and if so, I COULD NOT GO IN THE LABOR ROOM WITH HER, AS ONLY ONE PERSON WAS ALLOWED!!! Can you even imagine such a thing? So I sit on one side of a wall alone - and her on the other alone - waiting for your dad to get there - which took a while because HE GOT IN A FENDER BENDER ON THE WAY! I remember it like it was yesterday. I was wearing grey flannel pants and a navy blue sweater on top. I was thin and full of energy and 36 years old !!! That night I would be a grandma married to a grandpa. Your mom made me promise I would not have another baby. I was overjoyed when you arrived and have been your biggest fan ever since...
Here is a picture of my grandma and me when I was about 5 I think... I wanted to post a picture of her and I when I was born but my mom has all those photos. I definitely need to get one for myself! So in place of a baby picture of me and her, I am posting a baby picture of Carson with me, my mom and my grandma. 4 generations - just a short 33 years after I was born.
