Andy Warhol Quotes

I am looking for a new print for my bathroom and while I was searching allposters.com I came across these great quotes by Andy Warhol. The are pretty simple - not too profound. But I like them.

(By the way - I love that website. I love it for finding any picture/poster/print/fine art piece you could possibly want. And you can have it framed or mounted any way you want. AND you can use the site to snatch an image for a post or project, etc. Usually they do not have a watermark.)

Water for Elephants & Robert Pattinson

I recently read an article about the filming of Water for Elephants and they asked Robert Pattinson a question about his perfect day. I loved his answer.

You seem to only work. What would the perfect day look like for you?
"Recently I stood in the desert far outside of L. A. and watched the sun set on a circus tent from 1930. Everywhere stood animals. Elephants and tigers that should be loaded into a steam train. 300 extras in costumes raced around. The modern world had disappeared totally. Although that was totally fake, it still happened directly before my eyes! That was my perfect day. I would gladly experience that every day. It happens continually to me. It calls itself work. That is wonderful and more than enough."
Wouldn't it be the most amazing thing in the world to be an actor? I can't imagine being able to live in an alternate reality part of the day. That is not to say that actor's don't work incredibly hard. But I just can't imagine how interesting it would be.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie now and I hope it's good. It's cast includes some of my favorites - including Christoph Waltz, James Frain and Reese Witherspoon. And I really hope R Pattz doesn't suck. Now I want to read the book before it is released in April.

And as a little side note - we all know that I think Robert Pattinson is the sexiest man alive - but isn't he just a nicest guy too? Of course I don't know him personally. He could be a total jack a@#. Lol. But I doubt it - according to all reports - he is just as nice in real life as he is in my little dream world. ;)

Parker & Demi's Summer To Do List

At the beginning of the summer - one day while we were driving in the car - I told Parker & Demi to each think of things that they wanted to do while they were out of school on break and I would write them down.

I just found the list in my phone...

Demi's -
make smoothies
make puppy chow
make snowcones

Parker's -
climb mountain with gear
go on a cruise
get a boat and fish license
tour a pencil factory
climb a tree

Lol. These lists describe both of them perfectly.

Our Fading Civility

{click to zoom}

Today I made 240 of these little bad boys for a talk that my dad is giving this week. I love the quote so much that I thought I would share it real quick.

And while we are at it... Let me also share how much I love President Hinckley's book Standing for Something: 10 Neglected Virtues That Will Heal Our Hearts and Homes. It is such a great book, from a great man - for people of all religions.

Friends

LOVE these two photos. I found them on one of my favorite blogs, The Graphics Fairy. It reminds me of my best friend and I in another life. :)

Isn't it fascinating to wonder what these women's lives where like? What did they talk about? What where their fears, concerns and/or secrets that they shared with each other? Where did they spend their time and go for fun? Where were they going on these days? So interesting to think about! One thing I know for sure is that life would suck without a best friend to share things with and confide in! Life without a best friend seems unhealthy and unbearable.
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

Quote of the Day - Parker

"The 15th is King Juniors birthday."
And later that night while getting ready to say prayers...
"Mom! Mom! Be sure to bless King Junior."

I'm pretty sure that Martin Luther King, Jr. will forever be referred to as King Junior in our house now. Lol! My little boy is the cutest thing ever! :)

Then today Parker started asking me about the civil war and if I lived back then which side I would want to win. When I explained a little about it I referred to 'white' people and 'black' people thinking that I was being as simple as possible. My bad. He looked at me and said, "Wait. I thought they had brown skin." Darling. And so right.

One of my favorite MLK quotes...
“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

John Hughes (1950 - 2009)

How sad. Another great talent suddenly lost and way too soon. John Hughes was responsible for most of the best movie one-liners in existence today. He was such an incredible writer. Pure genius. So witty and hilarious. I have SO, SO many memories associated with his movies. He truly defined an entire era - which luckily was 'my generation'.

Below are my top 10 favorite John Hughes films and some of the best lines that came out of them... in no particular order. :)

Uncle Buck – 1989

“Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face!”

She’s Having a Baby – 1988

Howard: How do you feel about slave wages?
Jefferson "Jake" Edward Briggs: Slave wages are okay.
Russ Bainbridge: How do you feel about alcoholics?
Jefferson "Jake" Edward Briggs: Um, I like alcoholics?

Pretty in Pink – 1986

“His name is Blane? That's a major appliance, that's not a name!”

Weird Science – 1985

“So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?”

Sixteen Candles – 1984
“No more yankie my wankie. The Donger need food.”

Breakfast Club – 1985

“The next time I have to come in here I'm crackin' skulls.”

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – 1986

“Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.”

The Great Outdoors – 1988

“Pontoon boat? Whaddya going to do with a pontoon boat? Retake Omaha Beach?”

Home Alone – 1990

“Buzz! Your girlfriend! Woof!”

And lastly - the funniest movie of all time - and one that needs more then one quote sampled...

Christmas Vacation – 1989

Todd: Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.
Todd: You've got a lot of nerve talking to me like that Griswold.
Clark: I wasn't talking to you.

Eddie: You surprised to see us, Clark?
Clark: Oh, Eddie... If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now.

“You want to hurry this up, Clark? I'm freezing my baguettes off.”

Rusty Griswold: Dad, this tree won't fit in our back yard.
Clark: It's not going in the yard, Russ. It's going in the living room.

Clark: So, when did you get the tenement on wheels?
Eddie: Oh, that uh, that there's an RV. Yeah, yeah, I borrowed it off a buddy of mine. He took my house, I took the RV. It's a good looking vehicle, ain't it?
Clark: Yeah, it looks so nice parked in the driveway.
Eddie: Yeah, it sure does. But, don't you go falling in love with it now, because, we're taking it with us when we leave here next month.

Eddie: "Yeah, I got the daughter in the clinic, getting cured off the Wild Turkey. And, the older boy, bless his soul, is preparing for his career."
Clark: "College?"
Eddie: "Carnival."
Clark: "You got to be proud."
Eddie: "Oh, yeah. Yeah, last season he was a pixie-dust spreader on the Tilt-O-Whirl. He thinks that maybe next year, He'll be guessing people's weight or barking for the Yak woman. You ever see her?"
Clark: "No."
Eddie: "She's got these big horns growing right out above her ears. Yeah, she's ugly as sin, but a sweet gal. And, a hell of a good cook."

“Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?”

“Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, kiss my ass. Kiss his ass. Kiss your ass. Happy Hanukkah.”

Ruby Sue: Rocky bit my thumb. Him's nervous.
Clark: Nervous or excited?
Ruby Sue: Shittin' bricks.
Clark: You shouldn't use that word.
Ruby Sue: Sorry. Shittin' rocks

I am totally not kidding. We use most of these lines on a weekly basis in our house.

Aaawwwwww. Good times! Good times!

I am thankful.

I got one of those long, cheezy forwarded emails today that turned out to be really great because it is totally true.

Last night I had to have a little talk with Parker because he was whining and complaining in bed because he didn't get to use the pillow he wanted. I had to explain to him that there are children in the world that sleep on the dirt with no blankets or pillows. And that when they get up in the morning they do not have any food to eat.

I guess today it was my turn for a little life lesson and reminder.

So here is the email. Sorry it is in all caps. I didn't want to re-type the whole thing. :)

I AM THANKFUL...

FOR THE WIFE -
WHO SAYS IT IS HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND -
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER -
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES,
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE.

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT -

BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING -
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS -

BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

Quotes of the Day

Parker just informed me that he wants me to make him a healthy lunch and that he doesn't want me to give him any sweets for lunch like 'cakes and candies and things' - like I do that so often. :)

He told me that he likes healthy things best because they are good for your tummy and body and then he told me that he wanted me to get oil, vinegar and parmesan cheese at the store with yummy bread to dip it in like at Italian restaurants.

He is so hilarious!

Then, while blogging this, Carson is playing with my iPod touch and it is so loud that I keep telling him to turn it down so he finally looks at me and says, "No mom. You put on your headphones."

A little proverb for you...

Parker, out of the blue last night, said to me...
"Mommy. Never go to the ocean in a small boat if you are exploring something big."
I think it has to go down as the absolute funniest thing he has ever said to me. Just out of the clear blue sky - worded exactly like that. So hilarious!

Mother Teresa

(my friend just emailed me this quote and I loved it - so I thought I would post it - and it gave me an excuse to use this beautiful photo of Mother Teresa)

MOTHER TERESA
(1910-1997)

People are often unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
Be honest anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,
it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Great Quote

My mom had me checking her emails the other day and there was one from her personal trainer about her exercise plan, etc. He ended the emails with something like 'and let me leave you with a quote to think about...' It cracked me up! But it was a fantastic quote - so I made it into a magnet for my fridge! Hope you like it as much as me!
